I was wondering if going to an accredited Paralegal school in one state than move to another where I desire to move (either Cali or NY) is a good thing or bad thing when searching for employment? I know with the attornies they must pass the bar examines in the states that the choose to practice and was wondering if there are such restrictions for paralegals as well? I want to be able to get certified as a paralegal after I graduate my college and am looking to leave the state afterwards. Do firms tend to hire people who go to paralegal school in that state??? Any help would be appreciated.

I know CA has a Busniess & Professional code for what is takes work in C.A. as a paralegal (the school must be ABA approved), if so, no problems. Firms & Companies hire attorneys and paralegals from out of state all the time. If you're good you'll get a job.

Good Luck!!

I think, as long as you go to a ABA approved school you will be fine.

Completion of an ABA approved paralegal program IS NOT a requirement to fall unde the guidelines of Section 6450, et seq of the Business and Professions Code.  Some employers prefer it, but also accept certificates from accredited schools, as well as persons who have been grandfathered in having the required work experience.

Debjame is somewhat correct but do yourself a favor and go to an ABA approved program...the better paying law firms and companies will toss your resume away if it's not from and ABA approved program...I see it all the time...

"c) A paralegal shall possess at least one of the following:
(1) A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by
the American Bar Association.
(2) A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a
degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful
completion of a minimum of 24 semester, or equivalent, units in
law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or
regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for
Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.
(3) A baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, a
minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision
of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of
California for at least the preceding three years or who has
practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the
preceding three years, and a written declaration from this attorney
stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks.

Number four doesn't apply to you...good luck!!
