Q. Do we have rules? What are they?
A. We don’t have many, but we do care about the few we have. We reserve the right to amend or modify both these rules and this FAQ as necessary or appropriate. The Rules are as follows:
Please do not use this space to talk trash or gossip about other web sites, email lists, etc. Thank you!
If you see a post that you feel should be addressed by board management, push the "Alert" button that appears on every post. There is a space for you to state why you think this post needs attention. The reported post and your note will be sent to ParalegalChat and will be addressed accordingly.
Please do not attempt to moderate your fellow users, whether on the boards or via private message, email, or the grapevine. Please also do not nitpick the posts of others or correct their grammar or spelling. This is how trouble starts.
If something in a post really is unclear to you, you may ask for clarification, but please do so courteously.
Hate speech of all types and any insults based on race, creed, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation or dietary preferences will not be tolerated.
Q. What is the purpose of ParalegalChat?
A. ParalegalChat is a place where paralegals who are geographically diverse can be in contact with one another and share our questions, answers, information, etc. and build an ever broader network.
Q. Do I have to register to post?
A. No.
Q. Why should I register, then?
A. By registering, you can access the full features of the board, including the ability to edit your posts, add articles, add your paralegal association information, send and receive messages from other registered members through the boards, etc.
Q. If I’m a registered member, can I still post anonymously?
A. Yes. Be sure that you are not logged in. Then you may post as a non-member.
Q. Is this board moderated? If so, what do the moderators do?
A. Yes. The moderators keep an eye on the board for trolls, spam, violations of the few rules set out above, and similar things unrelated to discussions among posters. They also address alerts sent by members and handle matters related to board software and other questions sent by members.
Q. What about profanity?
A. We have no objection to it in principal. However, we prefer that access to the boards not be blocked by employer filters or parental controls. Therefore, we ask that if you feel the situation really calls for it that you use a few asterisks or other symbols, e.g., s**t. We all know what you mean.
Q. Do the moderators ever edit or delete posts?
A. Moderators will delete posts which violate the rules. Beyond that, deletions will be administrative, such as inadvertent double posts, and edits, if any, would be minimal, such as replacing a few letters with symbols (see profanity above).
Q. Does this board use UBB code? Does it use HTML?
A. UBB code only works for bold, italics, underline and quote. HTML code is enabled.
Q. The software for this forum seems far more complicated than most boards. Why?
A. The software for this forum does far more than many boards. In addition to posting directly to the boards, you can send and receive posts by email. It also has a variety of other features, some of which are noted above. Because the software is new to all of us, please poke around and see what all it will do.
Q. If I have a question for a moderator, to whom do I send it?
A. If it’s a technical question about a problem you are having with the board software, send it to ParalegalChat by clicking the "message block" below that name or by sending it to Admin@paralegalchat.com.
If it’s a more general question, you may send it to WendyNC by clicking on the “message” block below her name or by sending it to WendyNC@paralegalchat.com.
Please note that if you use the "message" function of the boards, your email address will not be revealed. However, if you send a direct email, it will appear. Neither ParalegalChat nor WendyNC has any preference in this regard, but wanted you to be aware of the difference.
